One message that I like to give to anyone setting out to make money from home with their own product or service is that branding is essential. Below, I will outline four things which you should keep in mind as you brand your company:

1. Own the one thing which is significant to your niche. In other words, do not do what Dole attempted to do. The company Dole made the mistake of trying to be all things to all people. Do you repeat their mistake. Rather, spend your time focusing on a single clear message. For instance, Mercedes-Benz owns "Engineering" in the automobile industry because it has focused on that specific message for decades.

2. Consistency over time is essential. Any company who is consistent ensures that they will be easily recognized by their customers. Consequently, you must be consistent in the design of your logos, taglines, visual elements, tone, and ad copy. Pepsi-Cola is one of the most recognized brands in the world because although they have changed, such changes have been consistent with their brand. For those of you seeking to make money from home, you must make sure that your brochures, website, blog, direct mail, and any other form of advertising have the same feel and message.

3. Talk to your audience, not at your audience. To do this requires that you know your audience. You must understand what they care about, and how to speak to them. Make sure what you sell is what they need. Remember that the conversation should always pertain to your audience, and not to your company. You must show your audience that you are aware of their needs, and how your product or service can satisfy their needs.

4. Provide an incentive to your audience. Keep in mind that you want your audience to remember you, and buy from you both in the present and in the future. You need to move them to make a buying decision. A strong offer should give them a reason to buy. Make the offer clear and appropriate for your brand. Once they have made their first purchase, give them an incentive to make a second purchase of a related item by offering a coupon.

One of the most important things to realize is that every time a customer comes in contact with your brand, they will have either a positive or a negative experience. Those experiences will add to their perception of your brand, and its conveyance to others. Furthermore, those experiences are recalled later when it is time to make a purchasing decision.  How do you want your brand to be remembered when the time comes for a prospect to buy? You need to start building that positive perception today and do whatever is necessary to maintain it. Doing so can be the difference between a highly successful make money from home entrepreneur, and a failed endeavor.
